3 Cups Drawing

Our first drawing was when we had to apply to 4 basics of composition while drawing 3 cups, and we had 25 minutes to do it in class. The 4 basics of composition is how you hold the paper, the spacing of the objects, the height of the base, and the proportions. However, we are not supposed to use tangents, and I like how I did not have one. Instead of having one, I overlapped the glass bottle on the paint bottle, and this helped the viewer see that the glass bottle is in front of the paint bottle. The height of the base also helps with this because the paint bottle base is closer to the horizon line or father away from the viewer. Overall I think I did pretty good for my the first drawing I have done, but there are areas I really need to improve on. I want to get better of having realistic shadows because mine are not.

Line Quality Drawing

This drawing was to demonstrate our understanding of the 4 Types of Lines, while having a whole class period to work on it. The 4 Types of Lines are thick, think, dark, and light. Using the different types of lines give your drawing a different feeling of depth.

The teacher set up a huge still life for us to work on, and we would on focus on a small part of it. I focused on 3 glasses and the string that was surrounding it. I feel like my drawing was not as successful of using the different types of lines because I should have used different types in certain areas. However, I do like my proportions of the objects and applying the previous things we learned into this drawing as well.

Still Life Drawing

During class, we were assigned a drawing where we had 3 days to draw a still life of objects that describe us. We had to demonstrate our understanding of composition, line quality, value, and Da Vinci's 6 parts of light.

For my 3 objects, I chose, my croc, a giraffe, and one of my 1st place volleyball medals. These all of different meanings to me, that is why I chose them.

I am very satisfied with the outcome of my drawing because I think it looks realistic with the shadows and the shading inside of the objects.

1-Point Perspective Drawing

In class, we began learning how to do a 1-point perspective drawing. We had 3 days in class to work on our own choice of drawing, and got to take our own picture. I chose a picture of a bridge from spring break last year.

During this drawing we had to demonstrate our understanding of composition, line quality, value, Da Vinci's 6 parts of light, and -point perspective. I think I did this well because i kept my light source coming from the same direction, so certain parts are light and the under parts are darker.

I am satisfied with the outcome of my drawing, but I would change things if I could. I do not like my bush on the right side because it was very difficult to draw with the different line qualities and the shading.

Self Portrait Drawing

In class, we began learning how to draw human features, and for this assignment, we had to draw ourselves. We used everything that we learned about the basic facial proportions and the shading of all the different features.

I thought this drawing was kind of difficult to start because I did not want to mess up on my own face. However, I think I did not do too bad. I wish I could do some of my features better, but in all, I like the out come.

2 Point Perspective Drawing

Before this, we learned how to draw in 1 point perspective, and then we used our knowledge from that to draw in 2 point perspective. It was the same concept, but with a little bit different rules.

In this drawing, we had to demonstrate our understanding of 2 point perspective, horizon line, vanishing points, our value scale, Da Vinci's 6 parts of light, and the anatomy of a human.

I am proud of the outcome of my drawing because it was pretty hard for me. It was challenging matching up all the windows together because there are so many of them, and then making the fountain look 3-D. It helped look 3-D after I shaded everything and added the figure on there because it looks like the person is standing on the ground. However, the most difficult part was trying to draw the water and the waterfall in the fountain. This was hard because i have never drew water before, but it turned out better than I thought so i am proud of it.

Charcoal Drawing

Our last type of drawing we learned how to draw with a white and black charcoal pencil. We apply the same things we learned from before, but we are just using a different type of utensil.

We applied are learning about composition, value, Da Vinci's 6 parts of light, and the grid. Using he proper different types of value was very important because there is the middle, high, and low key, and you didn't want to intermix any of them.

Overall, I think I did really good because it looks a lot like the picture. It was pretty hard at times because of all the different shades of white and black. However, the grid helped me a lot with getting the right shape of everything.

Choice Drawing

This was our final drawing in Drawing 1, and we got to choose what drawing we wanted to do. We got to pick between 5 different types, and I decided to do another charcoal drawing because I really wanted to try and draw my dog.In this drawing, we had to demonstrate everything we learned throughout the quarter. The first to the last thing.

Overall, I think I did pretty good because I can see my dog in the picture. It was hard because I did not want to mess up, since it was my dog. The hardest part was the tongue because I had to make it look like it was curling up onto the nose. However, it turned out better then I thought it would.
